Question:

hi there, I am living in AB and my mother is in NB. she is ill and is being put into a care home. she has a credit card debt and is being told, by the gov't, that I (her child) am responsible to pay off the debt before they'll allow her to move into the home as, once she goes into care, her pension will go to the home. I have nothing to do with this credit card and have never signed anything with this card company. am I legally responsible for this debt? thanks very much frustrated in AB

Hello Unless you are a co-borrower or have guaranteed the account, you are not liable to pay your mother's account. Thanks for the question Marie
