Question:

My question is that what happens to employees who through no fault of theirs a company they are working for goes bankrupt and contract is terminated by the contractor and a new company takes over? I am a security guard with a company that has lost a contract and a new one has taken over. We were sent home by the camp management without the new company offering us any job opportunity. We were not advised by the company we were working for either.

Answer:

If you were an employee of the companty which went into bankruptcy, you should contact the Trustee in relation to any outstanding wages or other employment related claims you may have. Another option is to contact the Director of Employment Standards in Alberta and discuss your situation with a member of the Department.
