Question:

Hi there, if someone has entered into a consumer proposal and during the proposal, a new debt was incurred that was not discharged by the proposal, can it be collected during the proposal? Or does one have to wait until the proposal has been successfully completed to collect on the new debt? Thanks so much! Nicole

Answer:

Nicole Yes, the new debt can be collected as the stay of proceedings granted when you filed your proposal only relates to the debts in existence at that time. If the new debt is creating problems for you in meeting the terms of your proposal you should contact your Proposal Administrator to discuss your options. Thanks for the question
