Bankruptcy Calgary Edmonton Q&A Forum

A friend of mine was advised by a bankruptcy consultant to just stop making payments on his bank credit line ($30,000 owing)rather than pay the cost (about $1600) of filing for bankruptcy. He is 62, isn't working, and has no assets other than an older vehicle. Was this good advice? Thanks.

Hi Lorna, I am unsure if that is good advice or not as I am unfamiliar with his financial situation and his personal preference. Those are two options your friend has to deal with his debt of $30,000. Perhaps, he would like to sit downtown with one of our professionals to review the options again to allow us to provide some insight.
