Bankruptcy Calgary Edmonton Q&A Forum

Question:

I have a mortgage on my home. Will I lose my home?

From:

Grant Thornton Limited

Date:

May 19, 2015

Answer:

Hello, Typically, you won't lose your home in a bankruptcy or proposal proceeding unless you do not maintain the mortgage payments. The Trustee will need to review the value of the house and the equity available. If there is less than $40,000 equity in a home in Alberta and you are able to continue with the mortgage payments than you can keep your home. Please do not hesitate to contact our office to discuss this matter if you have any concerns.
