I am leagally separated from my spouse. He is now considering filing for bankruptcy, i currently have my name on two credit cards and a line of credit that he has. What are my options for avoiding bankruptcy?

Hi Sholana, If the joint credit cards and line of credit is a manageable amount then you may want to obtain a consolidation loan. This will allow you to repay the total balance outstanding and preserve your credit rating. However, if the amount is too much to repay in full and you can afford a monthly payment we can sit downtown to discuss a consumer proposal. Filing a consumer proposal will affect your credit rating but will allow you to settle with the creditors to avoid a bankruptcy. Please contact our office to discuss in detail.
