Bankruptcy Calgary Edmonton Q&A Forum

Question:

I had bankruptcy before and got discharged in 2012. I got my credit report recently and it says I have some balance on some open accounts that were included in the bankruptcy. On those accounts, condition is "derogatory". Is it affecting my credit score? Is there any way to get rid of them? Thanks,

Answer:

Hello, Items included with bankruptcy should state so on the credit report. It is best to dispute inaccuracies on your credit report as the information will impact your credit score. To correct or dispute errors you must contact Equifax Canada and/ or Transunion and complete the Consumer Credit Report Update Form or Credit Report Dispute, respectively. You must also forward all of your bankruptcy documents and discharge for their review. At the end of their investigation you should receive notification whether the information was verified and corrected. This process typically takes approximately 30 to 45 days.
