Bankruptcy Calgary Edmonton Q&A Forum

Question:

I have had an account in which I declared bankruptcy then received total discharge. This account will be going on 6 yrs in May 2016. My question is is that what happens after 6 yrs if account hasn't been paid even though it's in collections. This is in Alberta

Answer:

Hi Warren, The accounts that were included with bankruptcy will be "purged" or removed from your credit report at the end of the 7 years if your bankruptcy was 9 months or 6 years from your discharge date. I suggest that you obtain a copy of your credit report at the end of May 2016 to review if this item has been removed from your credit report. If the item remains on your credit report then you will want to send in a dispute or investigation to have it removed.
