Bankruptcy Calgary Edmonton Q&A Forum

Question:

My bank acct was scammed for 6000.00 and now they are after me for the money. I am a single mom on welfare. Will filing for bankruptcy stop the harassment as the fraud is under investigation?

Answer:

Hi Anne, Bankruptcy will help release you from unsecured debts such as overdrafts, credit cards and loans. However, if the debts were a result of fraud, then the bank has the right to continue collections after bankruptcy. I would suggest contacting our office to discuss the nature of the scam and the fraud that is under investigation. Hopefully we would be able to provide some financial options to deal with the collection issue.
