Question:

I am currently on AISH and have been for about 7 years. On December 23, I had a collection agency take money out of my bank account. I checked and the debt i apparantly owe is from 9 years ago. Is this legal? What do I do next? Thanks

Answer:

Hi Lee, Normally a collection agency or creditor is unable to access your bank account without a court order. Would there be a judgment that was granted a while back that you weren't aware of? You can contact your bank and request the court order or notice requiring the funds to be taken. That way you will be able to plan your next step.
