Alberta bankruptcy Q&A forum

Question:

I filed for bankruptcy 8 years ago. I have met all my obligations and have recently been discharged. I received a bill from a credit card company that was in my bankruptcy yesterday. This statement shows the payment they received, am I required to pay the balance owing?

Answer:

Hi Ann, You are not required to pay the balance. I think that you have received a statement because your Trustee finalized the bankruptcy. A dividend / payment was sent to your creditors which may have triggered an automatic statement. I suggest reviewing the items on your credit report in a few months and ensuring that all creditors included with the bankruptcy indicates a discharge.
