Alberta bankruptcy Q&A forum

Is it possible to get student loan forgiveness? I took out a loan 2013. (with the belief, I would be earning far more money then I am). Partly due to the price of oil going down so deep. I tried contacting Alberta Student loans to make some kind of arrangements and they had sent it to collections. Now they are harassing me up to 3-4 times a day. It is extremely stressful and I am in fear I could lose my job if it persists.

Hello Jan, We would be happy to review your financial options with you. Student loans can be compromised in a bankruptcy or consumer proposal if you have been out of school for 7 years from the last study date. In a bankruptcy if you have been out of school for 5 years, you may make an application under the student loan hardship clause, provided for in the bankruptcy, to have the Court discharge the student loans. If you would like to discuss the above options please contact our office at 310-8888 to speak to one of our professionals.
